DIY
Life
In current society we feel out of control of our lives.
Working for the man, doing as we’re
told, no time for ourselves. We feel the need to take some
of the control back, hence
the resurgence of DIY – the weekend project. Can we
use this same efficiency to DIY
our life? DIY our personal relationships, DIY our Physical
appearance, DIY our mental
state – all in a weekend?
This idea has manifested itself in a series of cards which
will give the user a set of
instructions for a small (although highly unlikely) DIY
life project.
As a subtext the cards will, when hung on the walls of the
shed form a panorama of a
country field – just outside Melbourne. As people
take cards away for their use they take
away a piece of the country side and the card behind reveals
a suburban house. By the
end of the installation the panorama will be completely
covered by suburbia.
